Very small connected dwellings around a large central courtyard divided into gardens and drying spaces for laundry hidden by tall shrubbery. Everything was very clean and simple and both these are highly valued by the trustees who accept new residents. The sobering effect of the Reformation was very evident in the architecture and lack of ornamentation--though the place was still beautiful in an austere kind of way.
Jane OBrienhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02470238486846759120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9168054323536810543.post-41523046334631997532016-08-22T09:19:43.138-05:002016-08-22T09:19:43.138-05:00Phyllis,

I have a simple question; Why do the ...My dear Amy,
I have a simple question; Why do the traditional communities seem to be growing and the non-traditional communities begging for vocations? The Dominican Sisters of Mother Mary of the Eucharist are having 10-12 women enter each year; their retention is high. The Marians of the Immaculate Conception (men's community) are having 6-7 enter each year, and their retention is very good too. Perhaps looking at what they are doing because they are doing something right, and having communities that are more traditional is the answer. Many communities have had to sell off parts of their motherhouses when other communities are in the process of building projects because they have so many vocations.
This is in no way meant to be a criticism but something that I don’t understand and would appreciate your perspective.
If each sister in a community worked toward replacing themselves, we would not have the decline.
Thank you,
Phyllis
Psalmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01953590904866891036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9168054323536810543.post-52949558389848506172016-08-21T18:07:04.987-05:002016-08-21T18:07:04.987-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Psalmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01953590904866891036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9168054323536810543.post-22022300855390184352016-07-02T19:16:39.518-05:002016-07-02T19:16:39.518-05:00Claire, see my post below.
